Maria Parsons
Maria has over 25 years experience as a social worker, manager, lecturer, trainer, researcher, and consultant, working extensively with local councils and health authorities on planning, commissioning and developing services for people with dementia.
She was instrumental in developing one of the first Dementia Services Development Centres in the UK: the Oxford Dementia Centre at Oxford Brookes University in partnership with Anchor Trust and more recently lead the development of the London Centre for Dementia Care at University College London with for dementia.
She has advised some of the UK’s leading care providers on strategic development of dementia care, workforce training, and on technology and care home design.
She is an advocate for non-pharmacological approaches that improve the quality of life of people with dementia and is currently involved in projects involving people with dementia in art, drama and music and addressing disability through inclusive design of products and the built environment.
Maria pursues her interests in cross cultural issues in dementia care as a member of a UK/Canada group on technology and collaborative work with a major care provider in the US. Maria is on the editorial board of the Journal of Dementia Care, the UK’s leading journal in dementia care.
